The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry

Have you ever thought about been burned at the stake for being considered a witch? In ancient times, this was something that could happen to you, and pretty much to everyone. Religious fanaticism as well as the desire for knowledge domination, and ignorance all them were factors that made life very risky in many European countries, as, for example, France at that time. Indeed, you could be accused of heresy if your way of being, thinking or acting was not appropriate to Christian religious ideals, or simply because someone was thinking that you were a witch for being left-handed.

Now, can you imagine what the reaction of those crazy people could be if you mysteriously could have the power to heal the ill people?

Well, this is the story of Dolssa, a young lady who lives in the year 1241 in the province of Provensa, France. She possesses an unusual talent for healing the sick, talent that costs her the prosecution of a friar decided to make her face to God’s justice, in other words, he thinks she’s an employee of the evil, and he is determined to make her pay for all her sins.

On this story, you can live an incredible succession of dramatic events that by chance of destiny, puts her and her unexpected relatives in all sorts of risky situations by the mere obsession and madness of some powerful characters.

Pros: It is such an exciting story that makes people, especially young adults to understand how valuable is to talk with facts, and remembers the limits that an exaggeratedly religious point of view creates on people’s mind, and how these limits create violence by its inexorable lack of understanding and respect.

Cons: I don’t see any cons on this story, I truly enjoyed reading it.
