The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is one of the most intense books I've ever read for it to be considered young adult literature. The novel is about the nation of Panem. Panem is split up into twelve districts who must obey the rules of the Capital.  Each year two people from each district, a boy and a girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen must participate in the Hunger Games; a fight to the death.

This novel was hard to put down. There are so many different characters with loveable yet hateful characteristics each of them possessed. The book was filled with action and some romance as well. It was the perfect story line with a twisted ending.

The main character Katniss Everdeen in my opinion is one of the most monumental characters in young adult literature. She is a strong woman figure who stands up for what they believe in. She sends a great message to both young men and women.

Pros: The book was a great fantasy that can still be relatable to what is going on today. There is also a lot of action throughout the book that keeps the readers on their toes. Along with the well rounded characters there is Katniss a strong female fighter who sends a great message because there are not many of those.

Cons: The book was really violent. I would suggest it for an older group of children, eighth grade and higher. The book can get boring during some parts, but it always catches back on.

  1. I absolutely love this series! Suzanne Collins did an incredible job making her words jump off the page. Jenifer Lawrence is exactly how I imagined Katniss to look, and she also did an amazing job of becoming the character. If you have not seen the movies yet, I highly recommend.
