Ghost

Ghost

Jason Reynolds

Imagine running from your own father as he shoots at you and your mother.
For Ghost, he didn't have to imagine because it's something that really happened to him. He's been running since. He father was an alcoholic and his mother had had enough of his abuse.

A few years later, he finds himself watching a group of kids running track and he gets the urge to try it himself. He's been running for so long that he's never thought of pursing it as something to take seriously, but it doesn't take long for Ghost to see that running is his thing. Soon after, the head coach invites him to join his team and the rest of the book you follow Ghost as he grows. All the anger he's built inside has been his fuel, but with the help of a great coach and team he searches for a better way to fuel is running. Ghost, is a wonderful novel about perseverance and coming out on top.

Jason Reynolds write a beautiful book about the struggles after facing trauma. His writing is simple yet, striking and hitting home with his language. It's a great book for all audiences to read!

Pros:
-the language is very easy to understand and kids would have an easy time reading it.
-this would be a great book to read as a class
Cons:
none!

  1. Wow this book is taking on some heavy topics! I was intrigued by the title because ghost alludes to invisibility or death. I wonder how the title fits into the overall premise of the book. Great post!
