We have all wanted to be famous, more so with the ever so popular reality television. But with up and coming fame come very serious consequences, and this eerie novel explores just that. With fame comes sorrow and, sometimes that of the families and an unsuspecting person.

The story of The Black Dahlia is one that is suspenseful and sad. One that is both eerie and creepy. These factors makes for an amazing story that is true that makes the reader always on edge as to what will happened next. The Black Dahlia is considered to be a noir era book, meaning a book with a theme of crime with three categories; cynicism, fatalism, and ambiguity. This book is amazing with exploring fatalism and ambiguity.

The Black Dahlia is an up and coming actress by the name of Elizabeth Short. Narrated by an LAPD officer by the name of Dwight, who is a family man, and former boxer. On January 15, 1947 a body of a young woman is found in an abandoned lot. Her mouth was cut wide open and her body cut in half. The body is soon to be identified as that of Elizabeth Short, a new and upcoming Hollywood actress. The media and press would soon dub this crime “The Black Dahlia Murder”, and it immediately becomes a sensation across the nation as to who did this. This murder is similar to that of one that happened to the Districts Attorneys sister years earlier. Soon the NYPD officer who is the narrator becomes obsessed with the murder and it consumes his life. He starts to form an identity for Short based on a woman he meets who looks similar to her who is a rich and spoiled up and coming actress. But, what happens when he is all but wrong about the woman dubbed The Black Dahlia?

PROS: This book is full of suspense, as well as true facts of a murder that happened in the 1940s. It is an easy read and any young adult would be able to read this book.

CONS: This book deals with a very tragic story of a person who is a young adult. It also deals with could happen to anyone who is trying to work toward their dream.
