Samurai Raising by Pamela Turner
Samurai Raising is a fascinating story full of emotion and concepts such as fate, discipline and existential pathway. This book reflects the vicissitudes that Minamoto Yoshitsune had to deal with in order to become the greatest Samurai in Japanese history.
Minamoto Yoshitsune is the protagonist of our story. When Yoshitsune was a baby, his father was sent to a war against a rival samurai family. Yoshitsune's dad lost, he was killed, his mom captured and his brothers taken away.
Yoshitsune then grows up in his enemy's dominion to then be sent to live and learn in a monastery. He had a tiny body, so he did not look like a warrior. However, he inherited his family pride and strength so, when an opportunity come up to the revenge against his enemies Yoshitsune raised up to defeat them.
His genial instinct for battle and his great achievements and victories made him a transcendent figure in Japanese culture as an inspiring persona

ReplyDeleteThis sounds really interesting. Almost like a fictional story we would watch on tv, but he truly experienced those tragic events in order to become such a great warrior.
