In this book "Whisper to Me" by Nick Lake, the main character Cassie was hearing voices. The voices was telling her mean things like things that was very degrading, things that made her feel like she wasn't good enough. The voice also told her that she should hurt herself and others. Cassie was unsure on why she heard the voice, but when she was around the boy she loved, she didn't hear the voice. Cassie ended up breaking the boy heart, from being very devious, because of the horrible things the voice was telling her. She wanted to desperately apologize, and decided to write him a long letter, explaining everything. Her only goal was to get him to accept her apology.
I really liked this book, because she was explaining everything through the letter, so basically told the whole time we were reading the letter. She tried her best to explain to him what was going on with her, and hoping that he will understand. Even though the author was a male, he did a good job in writing from a teenage girl point of view. Many young adults can relate to this book, especially someone who suffer from mental illnesses. It could show young adults how to be strong females, and work hard to get pass many obstacles, such as a mental illness. It'll teach young adult not to lose themselves, especially when going through hard times. Young adults will enjoy this book, because Nick talks about real life problems and issues through a fiction story. The author showed that he did his research about mental illnesses, before writing the story because he talked about mental illnesses, its cure, and where someone should go to get help.
