Harley Quinn Vol 5: The Joker's Last Laugh by Amanda Conner

What is white, black, and red all over? You guessed right, it is Harley Quinn!

Harley Quinn is back and kicking some major butt! Harley left Gotham City and moved to Brooklyn. She is now living with a gang of weird but loyal friends such as: Big Tony, Bernie, and Harvey Quinn. Harley is dating her neighbor Mason Macabre and just as their relationship is heating up, Mason is sent to prison for killing the Mayor's son. Mason accidentally killed the Mayor's son in a bar fight and the Mayor intends to make Mason pay. The Mayor hires goons to kill Mason in prison. When Harley finds out she tries to break him out of prison only for her efforts to be thwarted and Mason is sent to Arkham Asylum. Harley will have to face her biggest obstacle yet because the Joker is locked up in Arkham too!

Readers will be kept on the edge of their seats throughout the comic. Just when you think Harley has everything all figured out her plans are foiled by the Mayor (or someone from her long list of enemies). The illustrations are so vivid, the reader will feel like they are being transported into Gotham City.

Pros: Fun to read, amazing illustrations, and includes some of Harley's best catch phrases. It is a great comic for readers outside of the classroom. Readers that are not familiar with how to read comic books will learn a new format and be introduced to a new genre.

Cons: I would not recommend this book for pre-teen readers. The language is colorful and the illustrations can be pretty risque.

There are some great reviews on the comic. Here are the links:

  1. I love Harley Quinn! This comic sounds fun and intriguing. I never really thought of Harley dating anyone other than the Joker. This is definitely going on my list of books to read.
